For me, music is about transformation. It is about awakening a person to parts of themselves that they have been unable to feel or have forgotten. It is about a deep remembering. Inspired from a near-death experience I had in 2015, a wakeboarding accident, where I had an out of body experience and saw a white figure and six black shadow council figure approach me telling me that I had more work to do in the world, would I really know how much my life was about to change.
The doctors thought my neck may have been broken and that I may have been paralyzed and I just remember saying in my out of body experience that I didn’t want to come back as a vegetable. I remember being then zapped back in my body and feeling that energy forge my neck back together and shoot down my spine. When I woke up back in my body everything felt different.
I no longer felt afraid of death and felt like I was brought back with an accelerated purpose. I started to see success as coming through me rather than driven by me. I started listening, slowing down, becoming more patient, and ultimately more present. It has completely shifted how I see the world and the music I am called to create.
Blending the formidable sounds of soul, roots, and folk, Jules Schroeder’s third album is every bit as raw, unique, and beautifully soulful as it should be. Entitled ‘Vancouver’, the eloquent body of work is a true showcase of Jules’ vocal prowess, featuring ten tracks that promise to take every listener on a timeless sonic journey abundant with emotion, passion, and unadulterated talent.
Recorded in Hipposonic Studios, Vancouver, Jules was selected by Amplify BC to receive a grant to record the album there. Featuring over 22 different artists, including members of Elephant Revival, Nickelback, Mother Mother, Dallas Smith, and The Marcus Mosely Choir, the central theme of ‘Vancouver’ is all is about the journey to finding one’s purpose and being willing to shake the status quo to uncover what is important to you.
In true Jules Schroeder style, her angelic voice coalesces with beautifully curated instrumental lines to form the sonics of ‘Fall’. As the eclectic body of work travels through the tracks, gems such as the indie, folk-infused flavors of ‘Paper Lantern’ and down-tempo warmth of ‘Mother May You’ highlight Jules’ diversity as a singer-songwriter. With each track offering a unique insight into the sonic galaxy of Jules Schroeder, ‘Vancouver’ firmly cements herself as an artist to watch in 2022 and beyond.
